Palace Ease Past Doncaster to Set Up Millwall Clash
Crystal Palace booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round with a solid 2-0 victory over League Two side Doncaster Rovers at the Eco-Power Stadium on Tuesday night.
Daniel Muñoz and Justin Devenny found the net for Oliver Glasner’s side, ensuring their progression and setting up a clash with Championship club Millwall in the next round.
Despite their lower-league status, Doncaster provided a competitive test, threatening an upset before Palace’s superior quality saw them through.
How the Game Unfolded
Palace started with dominant possession, but Doncaster had the game’s first shot on target, with Ethan Ennis testing goalkeeper Matt Turner.
However, Palace took the lead in the 31st minute. Daichi Kamada’s clever free-kick led to Jean-Philippe Mateta hitting the post, and Daniel Muñoz reacted quickly to fire home on the rebound.
Doncaster came out strong after the break, with Luke Molyneux cutting inside and firing just wide.
But Palace delivered the killer blow 10 minutes into the second half. Justin Devenny latched onto Will Hughes’ well-timed through ball and chipped a delightful finish over Teddy Sharman-Lowe to double the visitors’ lead.
The League Two side continued to fight, but Molyneux sent another effort over the bar, and Turner denied Owen Bailey’s close-range shot late on to secure the clean sheet.
Data Debrief: Devenny Steals the Show
- Justin Devenny was the standout performer, ending the match with a team-high expected goals (xG) total of 1.03.
- The 21-year-old registered three shots, the joint-most in the game alongside Mateta.
- At 21 years and 122 days old, Devenny became the youngest player to score for Palace in the FA Cup since Michael Olise in 2022.
Though Palace deserved their win, Doncaster showed great resilience, recording 15 shots—their most in an FA Cup game without scoring since their 2-0 defeat to Palace in February 2019.
What’s Next?
Crystal Palace will now face Millwall in the FA Cup fifth round, as Glasner’s team look to keep their cup run alive. Doncaster, meanwhile, will turn their focus back to their League Two campaign as they aim for promotion.
