Pau Cubarsí has committed his future to Barcelona, signing a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
The teenage centre-back, who turned 18 just three weeks ago, has been a revelation since breaking into the first team in January, quickly establishing himself as a key player despite his youth.
Rising Star: Cubarsí’s Breakthrough Season
Cubarsí was officially promoted to Barcelona’s senior squad ahead of the current campaign and has already made 60 appearances for the club. He is part of a new La Masia golden generation, alongside stars like Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Fermín López, and Marc Casadó.
Despite Ronald Araújo’s return to fitness, Cubarsí has continued to play an important role in Barcelona’s defense, often partnering Íñigo Martínez. His performances have been so impressive that it’s likely Martínez will lose his place rather than the young Spaniard.
Balancing Football and Education
Amazingly, Cubarsí is still finishing high school while competing at the highest level of European football. Speaking to RAC1 in November, he explained how he balances his studies with his football career:
“I train in the morning and go to class at three in the afternoon. The teachers from Lleo XIII (school) come to La Masia, and I have class until eight in the evening. If there’s a Champions League match, I have to ask for notes or catch up the next day.”
Despite his busy schedule, Cubarsí has ambitions beyond football, revealing that he hopes to study marketing or business administration after completing high school.
Barcelona’s Future Secured
By tying down Cubarsí until 2029, Barcelona have secured one of the most promising young defenders in world football. With a core of homegrown talent, the club’s future looks incredibly bright.
