Harry Kane is unlikely to feature in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, as he continues to recover from a calf injury sustained in the Champions League play-off second leg against Celtic on Tuesday.
The England captain has been in exceptional form this season, leading the Bundesliga scoring charts with 21 goals. He has also recorded the league’s highest expected goals (xG) total of 16.0, exceeding his xG by five goals.
Kane’s absence comes at a challenging time for Bayern, who were held to a 0-0 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in their last Bundesliga outing, marking the first time this season they failed to score in a league match.
Kane’s Injury Expected to Be Short-Term
Despite concerns over Kane’s fitness, Vincent Kompany is optimistic that the striker will only miss a few days and could be available for next week’s match against Stuttgart.
“It is not the first time this season that we will have to solve this situation,” Kompany said in a press conference.
“We cannot replace Harry one-to-one because not many players can score 40 or 50 goals per season.“
While Bayern will assess Kane’s condition in their final training session, Kompany remains confident that his squad can adapt:
“We will try to find the best solution on Sunday to win the game. If he is out, we will solve it within the squad.“
“The good thing is that we are not talking about a long-term injury. It’s a short-term situation.“
Bayern’s Home Dominance vs. Frankfurt’s Scoring Streak
Despite the recent draw with Leverkusen, Bayern remain in a strong position at the top of the Bundesliga, sitting eight points clear. However, second-placed Leverkusen play on Saturday, meaning the gap could shrink before Bayern take the field on Sunday.
Bayern have been dominant at home, achieving a remarkable nine consecutive home league wins for the first time since 2020. During this run, they have scored at least three goals in each match.
In Bundesliga history, only Bayern themselves have ever recorded a longer home scoring streak, netting three or more goals in 11 consecutive home games in 1993.
However, Frankfurt will provide a challenge, as they have scored in each of their last 21 matches since failing to find the net in their season opener against Borussia Dortmund.
Kompany: “We Must Focus on Frankfurt”
With Kane’s status uncertain, Kompany is urging his team to focus solely on the upcoming match at the Allianz Arena.
“Now we have Frankfurt at home. We can create special moments in this stadium with our fans, and that is our only focus,” Kompany emphasized.
“The goal is always to perform at our best in the next game. You can never change what happened in the last match.“
With several matches in quick succession, Bayern must now regain their momentum and ensure they stay at the top of the Bundesliga table as they approach the business end of the season.
