Brazilian footballer Felipe Melo has officially announced his retirement from professional football on Friday, January 24, 2025. The Fluminense star confirmed the decision through an emotional statement on his Instagram account.

Melo, 41, had previously considered extending his career to participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, but he ultimately decided to hang up his boots after the expiration of his contract with Fluminense.

In his heartfelt farewell message, Melo expressed gratitude for his journey in football:

“Today, I close one of the most important chapters of my life: my career as a footballer. These have been incredible years, filled with battles and achievements. But above all, they have been years in which I have seen God’s purpose fulfilled in every step I took. Every moment I experienced was guided by His hand, and I am eternally grateful for the privilege of doing what I love.”

“I want to thank all the clubs I had the honor to play for, the fans who cheered for me, my teammates, and everyone who was part of this journey. Most importantly, I thank God, who gave me the gift, courage, and opportunity to experience all of this.”

Concluding his statement, Melo hinted at a new chapter in his life, suggesting he will remain connected to football in some capacity:

“Now, I move forward with confidence into the next phase, knowing He will continue to guide me. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this story.”
