Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear that Marcus Rashford will remain out of the squad, despite the club’s ongoing struggles. Rashford’s absence has fueled speculation about his imminent exit from Old Trafford, but Amorim insists he will only select players he believes are best for the team.
Rashford Excluded Again as United Struggle
Rashford was once again left out of the squad as Manchester United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have been in poor form, and aside from Amad Diallo’s recent heroics, their attacking lineup has lacked consistency and struggled in front of goal.
Despite their ongoing slump, Amorim remains adamant that Rashford will not return to the squad, even as questions grow over whether his absence is harming the team’s performances.
Amorim: “No Matter What, I Won’t Play Him”
Speaking after the loss to Brighton, Amorim was unapologetic when asked whether Rashford could be recalled.
“It is his choice [not to play]. I don’t want to focus on this bad moment because in the games we lost, Rashford is not here. I don’t want to put this situation on Rashford,” Amorim explained.
“No matter what, I am not going to put out a player I don’t believe is the best for the team.”
His words confirm that Rashford will not be reintegrated into the squad as long as he continues to seek a transfer away from Old Trafford.
Rashford’s Future in Limbo
Rashford had shown flashes of brilliance in Amorim’s first few games in charge, leading many to believe he could rediscover his best form. However, his public desire to leave disrupted that progress and left Amorim in a difficult position.
With United in crisis, Rashford’s absence is becoming harder to ignore, especially given the team’s lack of attacking firepower. Yet, Amorim remains firm in his stance—he will not bend to external pressure.
What’s Next for United & Rashford?
As the transfer window nears its close, United must urgently resolve Rashford’s situation. The uncertainty surrounding his future has only added to the club’s mounting problems, with Amorim recently describing this United team as “the worst in the club’s history.”
The Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League and face a tough trip to Fulham next week. If their poor form continues, the pressure on Amorim will only intensify, and the Rashford saga could become an even bigger distraction.
For now, though, Amorim has made his stance crystal clear—Rashford will not feature for United as long as he remains unsettled.
